Site Overview:
This site is dedicated to the collection and cataloging of Windows freeware that can
be extracted to any directory and run independently without prior installation. These can be carried around on a memory stick
/ USB flash drive, or copied / migrated from PC to PC via simple copying of files. Hence the term portable freeware.
Some freeware already come in the form of a ZIP file, ready to be extracted
and run from any directory. Others require an extraction procedure, which could be as simple as installing them, extracting
the necessary files, and uninstalling them again.
Unfortunately, not all freeware can be extracted this way. Some freeware still rely
on hocus-pocus in their SETUP.EXE (write special registry keys, install nifty COM objects etc.) in order to function
properly. These non-portable freeware will not be listed in our database. Hopefully we will see fewer of them in time to come
if enough people become concerned about portability.

P Start PStart is a portable start menu that can be installed on a USB drive or your local PC
and provides quick access to programs and documents. You can organize your applications into custom groups and launch them
by clicking on the associated icon. The program supports advanced launch parameters, scheduled runs and custom icons, and
also offers an option to generate a autorun.inf file for use with CDs. PStart also includes a small notes organizer, a search
feature and displays information about the hard drive space on your drive. Other features include backup/restore, customizable
interface and an option to hide the launcher on the edge of your screen. I like it. |

TreePad Lite (freeware) and TreePad Asia (freeware) are a very intuitive, small yet powerful
personal database programs, only 465 Kb in size. They allow you to store all your notes, emails, texts, hyperlinks, etc. into
one or multiple databases. With the look and feel of the familiar Windows explorer, editing, storing, browsing, searching
and retrieving your data can not be easier!
TreePad can be run directly from a floppy, if necessary, including data. To
find any article you previously created or imported, you can browse the tree, in the same way as you browse directories/folders
in the Windows explorer. You can also use the internal search engine to find any piece of information swiftly. I am not positive
if TreePad Lite will run from a USB or other portable devices, I'll check this one out.

Great News is a RSS feed reader that optimized for fast and efficient reading of your favorite
web feeds. It offers different view styles, including a newspaper view, that allows you to read a group of feeds organized
arranged in newspaper-style page layout without having to click through individual feed items. The program supports custom
labels, email and blog integration as well as custom keyword alerts (news watches) that let you automatically find articles
