Detect and Repair Disk Errors

In addition to running Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter to optimize the performance of your computer, you can check the integrity of the files stored on your hard disk by running the Error Checking utility.

As you use your hard drive, it can develop bad sectors. Bad sectors slow down hard disk performance and sometimes make data writing (such as file saving) difficult, or even impossible. The Error Checking utility scans the hard drive for bad sectors, and scans for file system errors to see whether certain files or folders are misplaced.

If you use your computer daily, you should try to run this utility weekly to help prevent data loss.

To run the Error Checking utility:

Important: Be sure to close all files before running the Error-Checking utility.

1.

Click Start, and then click My Computer.

2.

In the My Computer window, right-click the hard disk you want to search for bad sectors, and then click Properties.

3.

In the Properties dialog box, click the Tools tab.

4.

Click the Check Now button.

5.

In the Check Disk dialog box, select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box, and then click Start

In most circumstances, select Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. I had never used this built in tool with my XP operating sytem so I guess it was about time. The scan took almost 30 minutes but everything checked out okay.

Internet Fixes

Founded in November 1998, Internet Fixes re-invented the term "technical support" by offering free technical support to everyone no matter the type of computer, hardware, software, or operating system. Internet Fixes will continue to offer free support to all users through the Internet with the intention of becoming the largest free support center on-line, something that most companies cannot offer to everyone, unfortunately. However, with the power of Internet Fixes, I plan on enabling other companies and web sites to link into our database and allow their users to get free support without any of the hassle of implementing thousands of pages of information, continuing to update the content of its pages each day, and ensuring that every link works throughout its database. Support of all kinds.

EULAlyer from Javacool Software! End user license agreements (EULAs) are the bane of most computer users.
No one wants to read through pages and pages of boring text before installing a program. And many programs put their license agreements in small windows that require lots of scrolling. So many people either skim them or skip reading them altogether.

But it can be dangerous not to read license agreements.
License agreements can provide information about the intentions of software, and other bundled components. Have you ever installed a program, only to have your desktop taken over by advertising? It may have been noted in the license agreement that you simply clicked past. If you aren't reading the license agreements, you have no idea what you could be agreeing to.

You should always read license agreements before agreeing to them.
But now there's a way of making that much easier.

EULAlyzer - Making it all easy

EULAlyzer can analyze license agreements in seconds, and provide a detailed listing of potentially interesting words and phrases. Discover if the software you're about to install displays pop-up ads, transmits personally identifiable information, uses unique identifiers to track you, or much much more.
